Class: It's Not Just Your Chair, How to Sit Comfortably Using the Alexander Technique
This class teaches how to apply the principles of the Alexander Technique to sitting comfortably. Chairs are an important component in being comfortable while sitting, but they are not the whole story. You also need to know how to coordinate yourself to make the most of the chair and to work effectively. The Alexander Technique teaches you this coordination so you can sit with more freedom and ease.
In this class, we work with general principles and then move onto applying the Alexander Technique to working with ease at the computer.
This class can scale from 4 - 8 people. Each class runs 1 to 1.5 hours, once or twice a week. Adding one individual lesson per person greatly increases the benefit for the participants, but is not essential.
Class includes hand-outs and a book,

This class works exceedingly well as part of a benefits program at corporations. It teaches employees how to help themselves avoid and reduce pain and tension from how they are working at their computer. Please enquire about customizing this class to fit your needs.
Syllabus
Class One: Balancing and Dynamic Posture While Sitting
We will review the basic principles of the Alexander Technique and discuss your current problems with sitting. We will explore how to balance while sitting without fixing or holding a position.
Class Two: Proper Engagement of the Arms to Support the Torso in Sitting
We will consider how your arms can work with your torso to help making sitting comfortable. We will delve into thinking about sitting as an activity where the whole of the individual is involved.
Class Three: Releasing the Legs to Support the Torso While Sitting
Too much tension in the legs can cause your back to go out of alignment. We will learn how to apply the principles of the Alexander Technique to freeing the legs so they work with you, not against you.
Class Four: Sitting and Activity, How to Sit While Driving, Writing, Typing, Talking on the Phone
We are often engaging in other activities while we're sitting. We will apply what we've learned in the first three classes and work with sitting plus an activity.
Additional Classes: Applying the the Alexander Technique at Work
We will apply what we've learned to the specific activities that we engage in at the workplace: keyboarding, mousing, sitting in meetings, dealing with stressful events, answering the phone, repetitive motions, and more.
Each class includes:
- practical information for you to use immediately
- reading material and visual aids to augment your in-class learning
- experiential exercises and lots of hands-on guidance
