Karen's Story:
Each time I leave my Alexander Technique lesson with Amira I float out the door, such a nice change from how I come in! Even better though, each time I come in, I feel less and less pain and less desperate for pain relief than the last lesson...evidence that I'm getting better!
I was referred to Amira a few months ago by a friend, who was concerned about my continuing back pain, following a bad fall in which I broke my neck and back.
I was skeptical. I don't warm to alternative therapies much, being a scientist. Yet I attended my first couple of lessons and found the ideas and methods intriguing, so much so that I signed on for a 12-week series and have renewed that twice!
I began to understand over time that the method had relevance to more than my back pain and the way I hold my body, but to how I handle life and myself.
Amira, being the eclectic, intuitive and attuned practitioner that she is, has allowed me the rest, space and time to become aware of my emotions, and working with those as a starting place for linking body and mind, and practicing the Alexander approach: stop, inquire, be aware of choices, choose a path/have an intention, observe the response in body, mind and heart.
Gradually, my back pain has diminished, to the point that it has almost disappeared. It reappears at times when I seem to go to war with my emotions, or feel defeated by them. It is astounding how that relates directly to how I hold myself - slumped, closed, protected - when I am out of sync with myself.
On the other hand, when I am aware of myself, I function so much better, and feel better, in all aspects of my life, and the back pain is almost indiscernible.
So, while back pain was the identified problem initially, use of the Alexander methods took me to understand a more complex set of causes and revealed more solutions.
I would recommend Amira and her teaching of the AT to anyone...everyone has something to gain from it, and she is flexible and willing to accompany and assist us clients on our path of discovery and growth.
